Haircut & Thanksgiving!

Zach's cheeks get rosy when he drools during his naps and rubs his face in it. Pretty glamorous. I have to put vaseline on his cheeks to heal them. lol. Doesn't he look cute with his matching outfit and shoes!?

This is his winter sweater. Doesn't he look handsome? This picture is pre haircut.

See some of the leftover hair? What do you think of his haircut? It wasn't the best haircut and I will do better next time...but it was free and Zach didn't get upset! =D That totally makes it worth it. I just hope I get better with practice. Chris' hair is so much easier to cut! =D
Zach got the Your Baby Can Read from his Great Uncle David for his birthday/Christmas. Zach pays attention pretty well, but he REALLY likes the songs they sing. Coupled with the picture below, I smell a musician in the future! =P

I think this picture is pretty cute. Zach loves to play with Chris' guitar.

Well Thanksgiving finally got here! Last night it snowed over a foot...so before I could start dinner I had to shovel the snow. I was so excited because Chris was able to get off a little early. So I had dinner ready at 230. I made turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans w/ toasted almonds, pumpkin pie, gravy and cranberry sauce. I made the gravy from scratch, I was so proud! Everything turned out pretty well. The turkey finished two hours before it was supposed to...I went to baste it and saw the thermometer out and was like...ugh?? So I checked all the parts and it was overdone. Luckily I had basted it/covered it enough it didn't dry out. I actually learned a lot of things today. I should write them down so I remember for next year...I am most proud of making the gravy though, lol.

Here Zach is having some turkey. I gave him a little of everything and let him go to town. He had a good time and didn't even get that messy!!!

Zach had to put on some sweatpants after the feast!!! I think his favorite is pumpkin pie...just like his daddy that way! =D
Of course we missed everyone today, but we had a nice little family day. After we ate Zach took a nap and I fell asleep on the couch watching football. Then Chris played Mario and Zach and I watched him. Zach likes Mario. Then we had some eggnog and watched a Christmas movie. Hooray for the lovely family life!
xoxo!

Walking footage!

The other day we took Zach to the indoor playground since one it's really cold outside and two we've determined he's not the biggest fan of snow at the moment. I've mentioned this playground before, it is at a community center on base. Great place. Zach was not all that enthusiastic about the actual playground. He met a friend named Asher. Asher was an adorable 18 month old who was showing him the walking ropes. Zach kept trying to take Asher's sippy cup. Not out of malice but out of curiosity--really!

So we were at the community center for about two hours or so and my jeep was completely covered in snow by the time we got out. It was coming down sideways for a good hour, really heavy. It let up by the time we got home.

As you will see I was not able to get footage of him walking on my own. I was however able to get it when Chris got home. Brilliant! You can see from the video that Zach is capable of walking he just hasn't decided it is more efficient yet. =D

Halloween to Chrismas...wait, where was Thanksgiving?

I am finally getting caught up on the blog. It's been good to get back in the routine here at home. Something about not knowing where anything is/goes in other people's homes makes you really want to come and clean/organize your house. I don't know why.

In any case. All three of us have exciting things looming on the horizon. Chris and I start school in January and Zach will start daycare. It's a little nerve racking...I am wondering how I will do. I don't feel like I am a clingy Mom but...I also have never had to be away from Zach so it will be interesting. Chris is excited because he gets to take some auto classes. I'm excited because I get to be paid to read books. Zach doesn't know it but he's excited because he like other babies so I think he'll like daycare. As long as I am out of the room he's on his best behavior...what is that about?!
In any case we did the pumpkin carving thing for Halloween. Pretty sure it's the first one I ever did. I was REALLY mad when I found out we couldn't put it outside because it would be considered feeding the wildlife. LAME! We did put it out on Halloween. Zach, Chris and I sat outside by the fire handing out candy and drinking apple cider. Fun fun!

We still haven't nailed down our Thanksgiving or Christmas plans but I know we'll miss our family. =(
So it finally snowed on the 8th of November. For decades it has snowed before Halloween every year. This is our first full winter here and we broke Alaska I guess. Not that I am complaining...one extra week without snow is not something to complain about. =D In any case it did snow and I was instantly reminded of how pretty it is. And the trade off isn't bad...shovelling snow vs having to mow. I like shoveling better, don't ask me why.

The whole family went out to play in the snow. Zach was thoroughly unimpressed. After we took some pictures I went inside and made hot cocoa from scratch (gasp!) while Chris shoveled snow. Zach just hung out in his long johns.

This video is not all that exciting, but we went to the trouble so I may as well put it up! =D

Virginia Pt 2b

Oops, forgot the video!

It's all fun and games in Virginia! Zach liked playing the football with Nana. He really liked the spinning football with Eric. He kept pushing it back to Eric as if saying, Again, Again! He was doing both for a long time before the camera came on...the camera is a show stopper... =(

Virginia Pt 2

Yes I'm slow. Sorry, but here's the rest of our pictures from the trip to Virginia!

Here we are at breakfast. Brandon looks thrilled huh?
Mean face.
Not as mean face.
I went bowling with all these men. The good news is I didn't come in last place...and I had a decent buzz going.
Chris, Brandon and I went to a Metallica concert. I followed Brandon's lead w/ the headbanging...and will you believe my neck was so sore the next day I couldn't even move it? Also, after replacing our Alaska shirts with Metallica ones...we lost the Alaska ones. =( I blame the shots we snuck in.
We went out to lunch with Great Grandma Trilby, aka Tutu!
Zach looks like a really big boy in this outfit. Makes me both proud and sad. Lol.
I am pretty sure they have the same scowl.
Zach and Daddy are saying goodbye to the Camaro. Awww, how sad. Zach is wondering if it will be his one day.
Zach was helping Nana do the dishes!
Zach got to spend some time with his Great Aunt Anita after she got over being sick. =D
This picture is courtesy of Nana. Either she's really clever or she was just bored. Or both! Zach is eating the letter I. Lol.

This is Heidi and Bailey. I decided if I was a dog, I'd look like Heidi (left). They were very sweet and Zach really enjoyed sharing his food with them. He would hand something to Bailey, she'd lick it and then he'd giggle and put it in his mouth. Cute and gross all at the same time!

This is us on the plane home. We had a nonstop from Chicago to Anchorage. That would have worked out great if we weren't in the VERY last row...also known as the "lounge." The stupid thing is Zach was ready to sleep from the getgo...and he would for a little and someone would wake him up by shouting or slamming something. It was pretty lame.
All in all the trips home were really worth it. It was great seeing Zach with all of his grandparents and his family. We really love Alaska but we definitely miss our family, especially w/ regard to Zach. xoxo!
